Strategic Board
Meet the South Coast Music Partnership Strategic Board.
Representing a diverse set of stakeholders, skills, backgrounds, and experiences, the South Coast Music Partnership Strategic Board meets quarterly to check, challenge and champion the decisions of the Hub leadership, with independent decision making.
Independent Chair: Jane Bryant
Jane Bryant took up the role as independent Chair of the Strategic Board of the South Coast Music Partnership in September 2024. She brings a range of experience including as former Chief Executive of Artswork (2010 to 2020). Previous roles include work with Coda Music Trust (CEO), with Arts Council England, and with the Scottish Arts Council. She started her career as a teacher of music in the Orkney Islands subsequently becoming Head of Music in an international school. She is currently a trustee of Nordoff and Robbins Music Therapy and also Chairs Winchester Poetry Festival. Now working freelance, Jane is currently studying part-time for an MA in Music Education from UCL, and in her spare time conducts two choirs in Hampshire.
Debbie Anderson, Head of School Improvement and Early Years
After more than 20 years as a successful serving school leader, Debbie Anderson joined Portsmouth City Council in 2020 as Head of School Improvement and Early Years, which includes line management of the Portsmouth Music Service.
Debbie has been the headteacher of an outstanding school, executive headteacher of 4 primary schools, a local and national leader of education, and works as a team inspector for Ofsted. During her long-standing career, she has always supported other schools and headteachers, and shown commitment to making a wider difference to children and young people. The Portsmouth Education Partnership (PEP) recognised Debbie's work through the award of Outstanding Contribution to Education in Portsmouth in 2019.
Currently, Debbie sits on a number of PEP groups and boards, as well as chairing new initiatives and organising teaching and learning conferences. She is passionate about making connections and joining up services in order to improve outcomes.

Sue Beckett, Head of Portsmouth Music Service
Sue Beckett is the Head of Portsmouth Music Service, one of the three Consortium Lead Organisations for South Coast Music Partnership.
Sue has extensive leadership experience in music education, working in a number of Music Services, including Devon, Hampshire and Southampton. She has undertaken diverse roles including Music Adviser for Guernsey, Music Advisory Teacher, OfSTED Inspector, Creative Consultant, as well as starting her career as an instrumental teacher and classroom teacher.
Sue is a Mentor for Music Mark and consults on ACE Focus Groups. She is a Certified Trainer of Neuro Linguistic Programming and a Registrar.
Matt Brombley, Inclusion Lead
Matt Brombley is the Inclusion Lead for South Coast Music Partnership and a Lecturer in Popular Music Production and Digital Music at Solent University. He is a steering group member for the Southampton Cultural Education Partnership and Young Southampton, as well as chair of the Music Mark South West EDI Working Group. He is also an electronic musician and producer.
Andrea Francis, Director of the Bournemouth Arts by the Sea Festival and Bournemouth and Cultural Services Manager
With 15+ years working in theatre, culture and events, Andrea now leads a small but dedicated team at BCP Council delivering cultural projects across Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole. In her current role as Cultural Development Manager, she is also the Director of Bournemouth’s flagship cultural festival – Arts by the Sea – which turns 14 in 2024. She has recently delivered the Historic England funded Poole High Street Heritage Action Zone Cultural Programme in Poole and is delivering the cross-conurbation Levelling Up funded Public Art and Cultural Trails Project. Andrea is passionate about the benefits culture brings to people’s lives, their communities, to the economy and local town centre regeneration. She ais to drive change through developing strategy, building strong partnerships and providing opportunities for everyone to engage in cultural activity.

Kath Page, Executive Manager of Southampton and IOW Music
Kath trained as a secondary music teacher after completing a music degree at Exeter University. Kath worked in many schools across the Southwest region, winning the Teacher of the Year in 2002 before stepping out of the classroom and into advisory roles.. She was the secondary music consultant in Hampshire before joining the Southampton Schools Inspectorate in 2008. Kath became Manager of Southampton and IOW music and Southampton Music Hub in 2014.

William Ring, Chair of the Portsmouth Local Area Board and Industry Representative for Howarth of London
William Ring has spent over 40 years as an instrument designer and maker in the Howarth of London workshops. He grew up around instrument making through his parents' work with the Dolmetsch family. After reading music in Cambridge he gained experience as a maker of early instruments in France and Germany before returning to the UK. He is particularly proud of developing the Junior range of oboes and mini-bassoons at Howarth, specifically to encourage younger players to take up these endangered instruments.
